Mary Grand is the bestselling author of murder mysteries set in the current time but in the style of classic whodunnits. These are set on the Isle of Wight, the landscape of which is an important feature of her books. Her current series features amateur detective Susan Flynn. It started with A Seaside Murder (originally published as Death At Castle Cove}. The latest, A Christmas Murder, was a number one best seller on Amazon UK. This will be followed on 7 July 2025 by A Halloween Murder, set in and around historic Carisbrooke Castle. Pre-order it here (UK).
Mary’s writing career began with three self-published novels starting with Free to Be Tegan, which is set in Wales, where Mary was born and grew up, and two anthologies of short stories. The earlier novels are in the women’s fiction genre, featuring central characters who find strength in overcoming adversity. Her following three novels, all published by Boldwood Books, are standalone whodunits set on the Isle of Wight.
Prior to becoming a fulltime author, Mary was a nursery teacher and a teacher of the Deaf in London, Croydon and Hastings. She has two adult children and now lives on the Isle of Wight with her husband and cat Princess (who appears fictionalised in the later Susan Flynn books).
